The Truth About Todays Market

We all look up to our parents with awe trying to grasp how they accomplished so much…. Similarly we all have ideals… someone famous irrespective of the field they are in…. They give us something to aspire to. They do what they do to the best they know how and inspire us in the bargain….

I aspire to be someone big someday. A CEO and founder of a big growing company, when I walk into the room or when people talk about me they know I am a woman of substance. Ever since I was 16 that dream has kept me going. But reality has dawned on me. And it isn't a cruel one or an unfair one….. it is what it is….

Our parents were born in a fortunate time…. The economy was flourishing, everything was new and unique, our Indian currency had value against other currencies. Times were economically; I wouldn't say easy; I would say conducive to growth. Any business you started then; if it wasn't too ahead of its time; did remarkably well. Hard work was rewarded in the form of results. Businessmen had ethics for a mans word or handshake meant something. The relationships; even in business; were close knit which  was a result of the lack of technology. People travelled met face to face and conducted business. This resulted in trust and a sort of camaraderie which is devoid today.

Today our generation doesn't have it so easy. The economy is a mess. Coming up with something new and unique is getting harder. Everything is done by electronically. Our business relations aren't what they used to be. There is mistrust and politics. Ethics have been flushed down the gutter. But then again I am not saying this about every business man or woman out there. There is a small majority of people that are in it for the long haul and want to grow by not cutting anyone short. I have been lucky to meet a few of those people and I have learnt from them.

Our generation also has one more short fall. We are an impatient lot. We want everything and more and we want it yesterday. We often hear success stories so and so started with nothing and became a famous entrepreneur or singer etc. And the impatient generation that we are we forget the journey in between. We do not take into consideration the years of struggle, heartache, disappointment and frustration. We think that success is like a movie where all those parts will get fast forwarded and there will be a caption on the screen saying 10 years later…..

So my learning is that while success will be yours you have to be in it for the long haul. Persistence is the name of game. With every mistake or disappointment is a learning and blessing.

Let success be yours…. So bulk up and settle in for a long, long dumpy ride….. But I promise you at the end one day you will standing in the middle of it all and you will smile to yourself and say "Well Done! Now What Next"
