Your First Big Break!

Every entrepreneur waits for their first big break. You are excited and the same time so panicked. Its a bitter sweet feeling. You know you can pull it off but you just keep wondering how? Then you take the project and break it down in to all the variables you know. You plan and you hedge and you plan some more. And then you look back and say hmmmmm this sounds about right.... till you speak to someone with way more experience in the field and he starts pointing out all the things you have missed out and you go back to the drawing board.

Then comes the day of execution and you run around like a crazy person functioning purely on adrenaline. You see flaws which you know you can't fix. A dozen things go wrong at the same time and you feel you have been stretched too thin. But you dust yourself off and keep going praying that everything falls into place. At that moment you think this couldn't get any worse but you put on a brave face and power through. You get involved and not direct from a podium.

There is moment during the execution; a very brief one; where you get a birds eye view of your creation and you marvel and smile. That serves as an energy pack; like in video games; and you go through the rest of the project. You see the end of the tunnel, the finish line and sprint towards it like your life depends on it. FINALLY PHEW! Its done! You did it!

When its done; like any perfectionist; you over analysis and become self critical till someone stops you and says...... It was amazingly done. Then finally you breath, smile and review it more objectively. You learn with every project but there are a few things you learn only on your first big break:

1. You can do it! In fact you did it. It was all you. While yes, your employees helped you also; if it wasn't for your leadership and your creativity you wouldn't have over come the obstacles and seen it to the end so CONGRATS!

2. Cut yourself some slack. Things will go wrong. You aren't a superhero, you can't hedge for everything.

3. Learning from the hurdles you over came during that event is of key importance. If progress is what you strive for then this is one way of ensuring it.

Your first big break is your entry into the big leagues. Things take of from there..... There is no looking back post that... So take a moment to Marvel at your first accomplishment. Don't sell yourself short. Cause there will be many more to come. Through all the tough times you will see ahead as a business owner this sweet feeling of achievement will carry you through it.

So, like I always say....
