What NEXT!!

There comes a time when you are so busy that you don't know whether you are coming or going! Life becomes a blur and you find yourself scrambling for air! But lets face it... We LOVE IT!!! We enjoy the craziness, the chaos and pandemonium. Its a different high. You feel like you are having an out of body experience cause you are creating something that is way larger than yourself. And after it is done you stand back and admire your handy work and marvel at the enormity of your creation.

This has a down side. We get used to this crazy busy so easily that when there is down time we don't know what to do ourselves. We feel like a fish fresh out of water. You would think that one would catch up on time with family, hobbies or chores. No. Instead you find yourself pacing around the office waiting for the phone to ring.

Being a startup between jobs is hard. Its classic; the fear of the unknown! But what we often times forget is that this is the most critical time in a business. This lull if used effectively can actually turn around your business. There are two things one should do at this juncture:

1. Networking: Going into the market hunting for business is a part of growing your business. This opens up new avenues and might just give you a new prospective.
2. Internal Process: Setting up your internal infrastructure is equally important. We often times neglect internal our internal processes.

These two integral steps more often than not get shoved under the carpet, or to the back of the cupboard and we resist revisiting it. Why you ask? Cause this involves us going out of our comfort zones and streaming processes we have neglected, meeting people and making small talk, talking about yourself etc. Whatever it is; it makes you uncomfortable. But it cannot be avoided. So how do we over come something we have been procrastinating on?

Easy! DO IT!

Easier said than done! Well let me let you in on a little secret...... I hate talking to people on the phone especially strangers to find out stuff, making an appointment, rescheduling an appointment etc.

So this is what I did:

1. Make a list: I made a list of absolutely everyone I needed to talk to and haven't yet. Decorators, the internet guy, the water supply guy whoever.
2. Made small groups: I broke them down into smaller groups of five people per day.
3. Target: My aim was to call one subgroup a day. And if for whatever reason I didn't I meet it; I carried it the next day and then the next till I got caught up.

Today I still maintain that list only because now there are too many people to over come.

Don't finish something tomorrow if you can do it today; cause maybe tomorrow you won't have the time. Your company is like your baby and it needs you like any child would need a mother or a father. It needs love and nourishment to grow and thrive.

There are no short cuts to success and doing the things you don't like is a part of it.

So Remember Smile, Breath and Go Slowly!
