"YES SIR"

"Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds" are the underlying principles on which my parents brought us up. More often than not my father would say its easier said than done but thats what our religion teaches us. While I am not a religious person I honestly believe that with all the negativity out there in the world we could a little more positivity around us…. I tried and still am trying my level best to live up to those expectations set by my parents.

MORE OFTEN THAN NOT I FAIL AT THIS!!!!!

Yes I said it! Its easier said than done…… But I still try… so you have to give me some credit.. cause every now and then I say to my self "Breath Xenia Breath… Be the Bigger Person!!!!" and it works most of the time… But sometimes when you have just about had enough I flair up in true Parsi Fashion……

This is true for our work place and personal lives. However, I feel the moral compass in the corporate world has just stopped working!!!! Your work colleagues are like your relatives….. YOU CAN'T CHOOSE THEM….. Some you will adore, some you will despise, some you pity, some are just outright creepy and that one person who you just hate (generally your boss). But you learn to work with them cause like your family you have no choice!!!! So you make peace with the whims, fancies and quirks present around you and find a coping mechanism of sorts to get you through the day….. Then you go out for drinks with the ones you get along with and bitch and moan and groan about what you had to put up with…..

As if office politics wasn't enough we have to also mould ourselves to the demands or our seniors…...

A situation where you really find your self is if you have a undeceive, confused, grumpy and adamant boss/owner. There is no winning with that person cause not only do you have to obey them if you don't agree with them you might not even get a chance you voice your opinion, which can get quiet frustrating at times. People like that often don't consider the human side of the business. They more often than not forget that the decisions they make heavily influences productivity, moral and ethics of an individual who is working under them.As an employee I have learnt this the hard way. The person sitting above you will take a decision and expect you to execute the same without an explanation which leaves us fellow salaried personnel confused and under valued.

You also become a human punching bag for your senior colleagues. If they are having a bad day, week, month or year; we as employees are expected to stand by our boss and organisation. Should you choose not too your loyalty and integrity is questioned. Strange but a true dilemma we all face on a daily bases…. But should the situation be reversed where we as individuals are going through a rough patch we are expected to get up dust it off and perform like nothing is wrong in our quiet demeanour by ending every sentence with "YES SIR".

The same is true for getting what is deserved from an organisation in terms or remuneration, compensation and entitlements. Gone are the days when loyalty, integrity etc. held you in good stead. Now one has to walk up to Human Resources; in a polite way; demand for answers and explanations. But your boss will expect results 100% of them time, cut your pay, vacations days should you come up short.

Executives sitting in big board rooms need to realise that there is an appraisal system for a reason and without people working down the line he/she wouldn't have a company to run in the first place.

Having vented the above, I have noticed that we have accepted this as a normal situation and so we adapt! Cause we don't know any better and can't challenge the status quo cause we need the money….

I as an individual can't take authority very well and will not accept someone telling I am not good enough or how much I am worth or if I am doing good work…. Its people like this who don't are used to hearing NO that actually do something that enriches our lives because we go after what we love doing and never give up…. till we succeed!!!!
