Make Art...

An Englishman read a letter from an Indian mathematician in England and decided to take a chance. That Indian wasn’t qualified had no degree but evoked something in that gentleman that he sailed him across the seven seas to see with his two eyes the truth of what that one simple dhoti wearing Brahman was capable off. They achieved such great things together they became legends and live on through their work till date; a century no less later.

Similarly 30 years ago a young man from India flew to Europe for a day to pitch his services to giant. Anyone on the onset would have told him either to wait whiles establishing himself or rather that he was completely out of his mind. He went anyway and came back with his hands full. He built an empire and created rather large shoes for his children to fill. Yes this man is my father.

He has said this so many times I think I have lost count. But nevertheless “Zeenia all you need is your first break.” Today I realise what he was trying to say is all you need is someone to take a chance. Every success story has that one big break. Its like the flood gates opening and engulfing everything in its path, submerging everything in sight to create something spectacular. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Michelangelo and all the other greats we put up their had someone who saw what they were capable off and gave them a chance.

But what people will not tell you is that they were recognised when their work was starting to be understood as art more than trade. Every genius started out with raw talent, which was nurtured, treasured, hounded and moulded into a skill that eventually produced art. That kind of art is priceless. It’s timeless. It’s to be put up in museums with great care so the layman can look and marvel and get inspired to do the same.

We all start out raw. Not everyone is Mozart and even he needed practice and guidance. But they all woke up everyday, sacrificed, endured, and persevered to achieve their destination. To maintain that level of commitment is close to impossible or so some say. If we just look back at our parents and shed light on their achievements, and struggles we will see we have it better.

We should be making the most of everything we have and still we find ourselves complaining and depressed. Wake up every morning and push yourself cause everyday you are one step closer to where you want to be.

Show up in your life EVERYDAY….. no one can do it for you…..

And when you get the chance to pause…. Remember…. Always….. Smile…. Breathe and Go Slowly…..
